Surgeon: Live at Machine, Amsterdam, Sept 2011

The concept of Ben Sims and Kirk Degiorgio’s Machine night is to play only new music, not relying on familiar classics to move the crowd. After Sandrien and Kirk Degiorgio I played my set. None of the music I played was more than a year old.

As before, I really enjoyed playing at Trouw and the crowd were great. Following the set wherever it went.

Mixmag Presents Scene Selection: Donga’s Introduction to Well Rounded Records

Well Rounded’s rise began with Deadboy’s ‘U Cheated’ EP in the winter of 2009, which came as a precursor to the current two-step revival and is now hailed as a modern club classic, and continued with carefully selected tracks from south Wales bass cartel CRST, young house upstart Hackman, Skinnz, the alter ego of Bristol’s Baobinga, future bass experimentalist Graphics, and current cream of the UK crop Julio Bashmore (second photo below). The label has amassed a back catalogue that spans and splices genres like house, fidget, UK garage, juke, electronica, bassline and techno and is host to some absolute gems. XLR8R Podcast 217: Pezzner’s Decibel Mix

Beginning tomorrow, Seattle officially becomes the center of the electronic-music universe—at least through Sunday night—thanks to the city’s annual Decibel Festival, which is once again bringing a dizzying array of talent to the Pacific Northwest. XLR8R will certainly be in attendance—look for updates from the festival in the days ahead—but in the meantime, we’ve teamed up with the festival organizers and tapped Seattle producer Pezzner to put together an exclusive Decibel mix for the XLR8R podcast series.

Pulling heavily from the dozens of top-flight artists set to perform throughout the week, not to mention several Decibel alums, Pezzner has weaved together a surprisingly cohesive mix that navegates house, techno, ambient, and more over the course of an hour. Just like the festival itself, the music can vary quite drastically, but the quality is always high.
